An enchanting tree-lined avenue leads to a beautiful homestay nestled in private woodlands on an estate of over three thousand acres. A large manor, cozy as a cottage. A moorland hideaway, close to the bustling North Devon coast.

Step behind the formal façade and find your every comfort catered for, with underfloor heating, a Sonos sound system and high-speed broadband.

Timeless elegance suffuses the living rooms. Sit before an open fire, tapestry rugs at your feet, antique dressers behind you and beautiful artworks on the walls. Gather in the drawing room, library or dining room, or chat over the kitchen island with a glass or two of English wine, produced on the manor’s sister estate in Herefordshire.

Outside, play tennis or croquet on the lawns, where there’s a marquee pitch too and a ha-ha. Explore the 6,000 acre moorland estate, where red deer roam, and sea eagles, otters and Exmoor ponies make their home. KYLE CAMPBELL: sudden journeys HOST and TRAVEL GUIDE

Kyle Campbell has spent more than two decades learning how to pay attention. Born in Tennessee, now living in an eighteenth-century farmhouse in the English countryside, she has spent those years leading intimate journeys across Europe and the UK, studying what happens to people when they slow down long enough to really look at where they are.

She founded Sudden Journeys on a simple conviction: that travel is not something you consume, it is something you encounter. She designs experiences the way a good host sets a table, with care for who is sitting there, what they need, and what might open between people when the setting is beautiful and the pace is unhurried.

Cornwall and Devon are landscapes she knows in her bones. She will bring you to places that don't make the highlights reels, ask you questions worth sitting with, and make sure you leave feeling like you found something you didn't know you were looking for.

Why This Tour Is Special

This is not a tour designed to rush you from highlight to highlight rather it is an invitation to slow down and be held by the landscape. Set on a private country estate in Exmoor, the rhythm of the journey balances wild beauty with deep rest: moorland mornings, fireside evenings, long meals, and unhurried conversations.

You’ll travel through some of England’s most storied and atmospheric places… from windswept moors and dramatic Cornish cliffs to medieval villages and hidden market towns while leaving space for solitude, reflection, and choice.

With intimate group size and women only, thoughtful pacing, and moments of true stillness woven throughout, this experience is for those who crave connection over consumption, presence over performance, and a kind of travel that lingers long after you return home.

DAY ONE (Arrival Day) The journey begins at Taunton station, where you'll meet your fellow travelers and board your private transport into Exmoor. As the road climbs and the hedgerows give way to open moorland, the week begins to reveal itself slowly through the window.

We stop first in Simonsbath, one of the most remote villages in Somerset, sitting in a fold of the moor at the heart of the National Park. Here, tucked into the grounds of the old Simonsbath House, is Boevey's Tearoom, an unhurried place for a first cup of tea together. This is where introductions happen without pressure, over cake and tea, with the moor right outside the door.

From Simonsbath, it's a short drive to the estate. Settle into your room. Take your first walk if you need to stretch your legs, or simply sit with the view. In the evening, come together around the fire for welcome drinks before gathering at the table for a candlelit welcome feast with your private chef.

  • Arrival at Taunton station, private transport into Exmoor

  • Tea and introductions at Boevey's Tearoom, Simonsbath

  • Arrive and settle into the estate

  • Welcome drinks by the fire

  • Candlelit welcome dinner with a private chef

Light walking: 1-2 miles throughout the afternoon. Bus 1 hr to property.

DAY TWO | WILD EXMOOR This is the day you meet the moor properly.

After a slow morning at the estate, we set out by Land Rover into the open heart of Exmoor National Park. This is real Exmoor: wide skies, ancient pathways, the possibility of red deer moving through the bracken, and birdlife that belongs to no other landscape in England. Your guide will share the local legends threaded through this terrain, the stories embedded in place names and hilltops and the old drove roads that cross the plateau.

From the moor, we drop down into Dunster, the medieval market town sitting just below the moorland edge, for lunch in the village and time to explore the village. Afterwards, we visit the Exmoor Pony Centre to meet the ponies themselves, one of the oldest native breeds in Britain, small and sturdy and entirely at home in this landscape. Then back to the estate for the rest of the afternoon.

Dinner at the house.

  • Slow morning at the estate

  • Land Rover safari across Exmoor National Park: red deer, Exmoor ponies, birdlife, moorland legends

  • Lunch in Dunster

  • Visit the Exmoor Pony Centre

  • Return to the estate, dinner at the house

Light to moderate. Land Rover 2 to 2.5 hours. Walking optional and at your own pace.

DAY THREE | ST AGNES HEAD, PORT ISSAC, & BODMIN MOOR. Today we travel south to Cornwall and trace England’s wild western edge, beginning at St Agnes Head, where dramatic cliffs and abandoned tin mines overlook the vast Atlantic (Poldark country). From there, we wander the narrow lanes of Port Isaac, a privately owned fishing village of whitewashed cottages and quiet harbors, seemingly untouched by time. Turning inland, the landscape opens into the haunting expanse of Bodmin Moor, stopping at the storied Jamaica Inn, long associated with smugglers and legend. As we continue through Cornwall and into Devon, rolling moorland and hedgerows unfold, a day shaped by sea air, stone, and the enduring myths of the English countryside.

  • Visit St Agnes Head, abandon ruins of former tin and copper mines (Poldark locations)

  • Lunch in Port Isaac, a privately-owned village with whitewashed fishermen’s cottages

  • Drive through Bodmin Moor and stop at the famed Jamaica Inn

  • Special farm to table dinner

Moderate walking: 4-6 miles throughout the day. Stairs and steep hills in st agnes head and tintagel. Bus 4 1/2 hours.

DAY FOUR | REST DAY This day belongs entirely to you. Sleep until you're ready. Make a second cup of tea. Sit with the view. There is nothing you are required to do and nowhere you are required to be.

For those who want to move, the moorland is right outside the door, and the paths from the estate will take you as far as you want to go. For those who want to make something with their hands, join the house chef in the kitchen to learn the art of a proper Devonshire cream tea, scones made from scratch, the order of jam and cream a matter of some regional debate. In the afternoon, the horses are available for those who'd like to ride out across the estate.

The evening is unhurried. Come back together when you're ready. Dinner at the house. Later a special surprise experience is planned.

  • Free day on the estate, moorland walking at your own pace

  • Optional: scone-making and cream tea experience with the house chef

  • Optional: horseback riding across the estate (additional cost)

  • Dinner at the property

  • Special evening experience planned

This day is determined by you. No Bus.

DAY FIVE | DARTMOOR, ASHBRUTON & KNIGHTSHAY. Today moves gently between moorland, market town, and manor house. We begin the morning exploring the wide, windswept beauty of Dartmoor, where granite tors, open skies, and ancient pathways create a landscape that feels both untamed and deeply storied. This is one of my very favorite places in all of England. From the moor, we travel to Ashburton, a delightful Devon market town, for lunch and time to browse its antiques shops, craft studios, and independent boutiques. In the afternoon, we visit Knightshayes Court and Gardens, a striking Gothic Revival mansion surrounded by richly designed Victorian gardens; romantic, unexpected, and full of detail. The day concludes with a relaxed dinner at the local pub where good food and warm atmosphere offer a fitting close to a day.

  • Visit Knightshayes Court and Gardens, a Gothic Revival Mansion

  • Lunch time, Explore Ashbruton, delightful market town for antiques and crafts

  • Visit the expansive and mysterious landscape of Dartmoor

  • Dinner: local county pub

Moderate walking: 2-4 miles throughout the day. Bus 2 hours.

DAY SIX | REST DAY You know the house now. You know which chair catches the afternoon light and which window frames the best view of the moor. Today is for inhabiting all of it one last time, slowly and without rush.

Wander where you've wanted to go but haven't yet. Read the book you brought. Walk the path you keep meaning to take. If you'd like to go further afield, a private driver can be arranged to take you deeper into Devon or across into Cornwall for an additional cost.

In the evening, we gather for the last time. The table will be set as it was on the first night, candlelit and generous. A private chef farewell feast, and whatever toasts feel right.

  • Free day on the estate

  • Optional: private driver into Devon or Cornwall (additional cost)

  • Farewell feast with a private chef, candlelit dinner

This day is determined by you. No Bus.

DAY SEVEN (Departure Day) Departure breakfast together. After six days of rest and reclaiming time for yourself, it is sadly time to leave. You will depart for the Taunton train station.
