There is a thread that runs through our lives… a line that ties us to those who came before. It is woven not just in the names in our family trees, but in the land beneath our feet, in the silent passing of generations and in the stories they carried. This journey is not merely about tracing those names, but about stepping into a history where the ground is familiar, even if it’s foreign.
This is not just a tour through Ireland. This is a journey through the layers of history that shaped your ancestors. It’s more than walking the streets of Dublin or gazing at the cliffs of Northern Ireland. It is realizing that the story is still being written. You are a part of it, as much as they are.
It’s about understanding your family's place in the world and the stories that have shaped you. On this tour, your personal journey will be deepened, as you process and reflect on your family’s migration and origin stories. You will not only visit historical sites but also connect emotionally to the histories that live within you.

ACCOMMODATIONS
THREE NIGHTS IN DUBLIN
A warm, design-forward retreat in the heart of Dublin, this brand new hotel feels more like a lived-in home than a hotel. Thoughtful interiors, inviting common spaces, and an unpretentious elegance make it an ideal place to arrive, settle, and begin paying attention.
Why we chose it: A soulful, centrally located home base that invites connection—both to the city and to one another.
ONE NIGHT IN THE IRISH COUNTRYSIDE
Set between the Mourne Mountains and the Irish Sea, this seaside retreat offers grandeur without stiffness and beauty without hurry. Here, landscape takes the lead. Afternoon tea, sea air, and mountain light create space for rest, reflection, and remembering.
Why we chose it: Few places so beautifully hold land, history, and stillness in the same breath.
THREE NIGHTS IN BELFAST
Housed in the original Harland & Wolff headquarters, this hotel is steeped in story. Original architectural details anchor you in Belfast’s industrial past, offering a deeply atmospheric stay where history is not displayed—it’s inhabited.
Why we chose it: To stay inside the story itself, in a place shaped by labor, migration, and global movement.
TOUR LEADER: KYLE CAMPBELL
FOUNDER OF SUDDEN JOURNEYS
Meet Kyle, founder of Sudden Journeys; a seasoned travel guide and storyteller born in Tennessee and shaped by more than two decades of leading intimate journeys across Europe and the U.S. Her work blends deep historical curiosity, a reverence for place, and years spent alongside displaced peoples and refugees, whose stories continue to inform how she understands migration, identity, and belonging. Kyle designs travel not as consumption, but as encounter—experiences meant to expand worldviews, soften hearts, and invite reflection on how where we come from shapes how we live and love today. When she’s not on the road, she calls an 18th-century farmhouse in the English countryside home.
Who Is This For?
This story-centered journey is for seekers… those who feel a desire to connect to their heritage, curious about unanswered family histories, or navigating a season of transition. It’s for people who sense that travel can be transformative and are willing to step beyond the familiar to better understand themselves, their ancestors, and their place in the world.
Why Origin Stories
Stories shape us. Sometimes quietly, sometimes across generations. By exploring our origin stories with curiosity and care, we can loosen what weighs us down and reclaim what gives us strength. This tour offers an inspiring space to begin that work: to understand the past, tend to the present, and reshape the stories we carry forward.

Welcome, traveler. You’ve arrived in Dublin! Your home for the next two nights is centrally located, perfectly placed for wandering, watching, and easing into the rhythm of the city. After settling in, we’ll take a leisure walk through central Dublin, orienting ourselves to place and pace. This first afternoon is intentionally unhurried, time to breathe, notice, and arrive fully. Our morning begins at EPIC: The Irish Emigration Museum, where personal stories, letters, and artifacts trace the journeys of those who left Ireland for America, for Scotland, and for places unknown. This is not abstract history; it is intimate, human, and often familiar. The afternoon is yours. Wander, journal, café-hop, or return to a place that caught your attention yesterday. Dinner on your own this evening.

We leave the city behind and head into the Irish countryside, passing through villages and gorgeous landscape. By afternoon, we arrive at Strokestown Park House and Famine Museum, one of the most powerful places in Ireland to understand the Great Famine. Here, the story becomes painfully clear: eviction notices, ship manifests, and the quiet devastation that pushed families onto roads, boats, and into exile. We continue through nearby famine memorials and villages, learning how land, policy, and survival reshaped entire family lines. The day ends not in heaviness, but in shared humanity, with dinner and live music at beloved gathering place, a local pub where story and song bring warmth back into the day.

• Countryside drive & village stops
• Strokestown Park House & Famine Museum

Walk in Tollymore Forest Park. By afternoon, we arrive in Newcastle, set between the sea and the Mourne Mountains. We check into the elegant seaside hotel. Enjoy a walk along the coast, take in the views, or simply rest. Local guides and storytellers help us understand how geography shaped family decisions: who stayed, who left, and why. The evening brings us together again for a storytelling session: music, memory, and spoken word.. reflecting how migration reshaped culture as much as people. Dinner together.

MORE TOUR INFORMATION
-
This tour is designed for curious travelers, particularly Americans interested in Irish or Scots-Irish heritage—who want more than sightseeing. You don’t need a detailed family tree to join; just a desire to understand how history, migration, and place shape identity. You don’t have to have Irish family connections.
-
Not at all. While the tour explores Irish and Ulster-Scots migration, it’s ultimately about understanding origin stories and how they influence our present lives. Many guests come without confirmed Irish roots and still find the experience deeply meaningful.
-
This is a moderate, well-paced tour. Most walking is gentle and optional, with plenty of rest built in. We travel by private coach on longer days, and there are free afternoons and evenings to move at your own pace.
-
This journey blends history, landscape, genealogy, storytelling, and reflection. We visit well-known sites, but always through a human lens—asking why this place mattered, who left from here, and how those stories still live on. It’s as much an inward journey as a physical one.
-
Yes. We include sessions with genealogists and historians who can help you understand Irish records and migration patterns. This is guidance and context rather than exhaustive research, meant to support personal discovery rather than overwhelm.
-
The tour explores difficult history, including famine, displacement, and conflict, but it is intentionally balanced with beauty, music, laughter, and rest. Guests often describe it as deep but not heavy… honest, grounding, and surprisingly hopeful.
-
This is a small group tour, allowing for meaningful conversation, flexibility, and shared experiences. Group size is intentionally limited to preserve intimacy and connection.
-
We stay in thoughtfully chosen, character-rich hotels that reflect place and story. These are comfortable, atmospheric, and well-located, not generic chain hotels.
-
Yes. Free afternoons allow space for rest, personal exploration, or revisiting places that resonated with you.
-
Intentional and unhurried. We value lingering, conversation, and presence over rushing from site to site. Some days are fuller, others lighter, with a natural rhythm across the journey.
-
The tour is reflective and human-centered, but not religiously affiliated. Guests of all backgrounds are welcome. Conversations may touch on faith as part of history or personal story, but always with openness and respect
-
Many guests travel solo. This trip is build for those who come alone. Overall, the group dynamic is warm and welcoming, and solo travelers often find the shared meals and conversations especially meaningful.
-
Food is an important part of this journey, and we’re mindful that everyone comes with different needs. We happily accommodate most dietary requirements and allergies (including vegetarian, gluten-free, and other medical needs) when we’re informed in advance. Many meals are shared, unhurried, and thoughtfully chosen, and we work closely with restaurants and hotels to ensure you feel well cared for throughout the tour.
